Transmission Rebuild on a 2015 GMC Yukon

I can not believe some dealerships charge customers crazy amounts of money and even lie about what is wrong with their vehicle. We had a customer this past week bring in a 2015 GMC Yukon that was having transmission problems. He was informed by the dealer that the transmission was shot beyond repair, and specifically that the pump had blown up in it, and that he would need another unit that would cost upwards of 10,000$ after installation. To say I was flabbergasted when I heard this is an understatement. You see, if a pump is blown up in a 6l80 transmission, the vehicle simply will not move. The customer drove it here from the dealer, so that obviously could not be the issue!

With all that being said, Ben Jr went out and started the diagnostics process. The fluid was full & burnt, and there were several solenoid codes inside the transmission module. After clearing codes he went for a test drive. The torque converter slip readings were off the charts, sometimes reading anywhere from 150-200rpms when it is meant to be below 40 at the time. This is showing that the internal clutch inside the torque converter is failing. What is the solution? A Transmission Rebuild is the simplest option.

After several days of waiting, as we are entirely to busy to do same day repairs, we got started on the Yukon. With the transmission pulled it was time to tear it down and see the damage. Low and behold, the forward clutches are burnt up, 3/5/R drum is cracked, and the shear amount of metal means the Torque Converter is definitely the failure point. So we inform the customer of the news, a rebuild is required. We do our standard recipe for this unit. New PR Valve, Forward Clutches & Steels, 3/5/R Drum, TECHM Rebuild, VB Recalibration Kit, and an updated Heavy Duty Torque Converter. To top it all off a beautiful tune to make the transmission shift like a Cadillac fresh off the lot. After hot flushing the cooler and installing the transmission, our customer was extremely happy. He saved over 5,000$ and received a better product from us than what was possible from the dealer, as the dealer is not allowed to tune Transmissions. We our glad our customer can cruise around Bowling Green, KY, now in his freshly rebuild 2015 GMC Yukon.
