Torque Converter Shutter on a 2018 Chevy Colorado in Bowling Green, KY
June 12, 2024
The Colorado king strikes again! For those of you that keep track of what we do here at Wholesale Transmission, you will know that Jason sure does love working on 2016+ Chevy Colorado's. You see, to truly understand why he loves them so much you have to know who Jason is. Jason is a hard working, resourceful, and driven man. He seems to struggle at finding work that challenges him both mentally and physically. Having worked in the mechanic industry for most of his life, he knows his way around most domestic trucks. The Chevy Colorado though, that is a different beast entirely. When Jason sees a Colorado in our lot, he is very quick to demand that he works on it! For everything to fit such a small frame the engineers had to make some trade-offs, you can read more about that in our previous article on the Colorado's.
"The underside of a this is so jammed pack full of junk that it makes it almost impossible to get to the Torque Converter bolts!" I heard Jason scream as I went to check on him. A taco bell grandee burrito in one hand, and an air impact gun in the other, bound and determine to get the transmission out of this truck. The last time we had one of these in I was certain Jason had cut off 10 years of his life from the stress of working on it, this go round I believe we are up to 20. It is nice to say though that Jason was roughly 30 minutes faster at this job than the last one, so that is improvement!
On a more serious note, our customer brought in this Colorado for the exact same problem the last one had, Torque Converter shutter. We are starting to realize that the shutter for these 8l45s-8l90s feel a bit different from that of the 6l80s-6l90s, but we are still able to repair them! Thus far, a good service with updated fluid & a new torque converter has solved all of our customers complaints. After completing the Transmission Repairs in Bowling Green, KY, our customer was back on the road happy as can be! Jason on the other hand, he has therapy twice a week for the next month.
