2019 Ford F-150 10r80 Transmission Repairs in Bowling Green, KY
September 6, 2024
Picture this, you just bought an exceptionally new to you 2019 Ford F-150 from your favorite dealer, this man has sold you dozens of cars over the years with no problems whatsoever. You buy this thinking "If anything goes wrong with this truck soon, I am sure they will cover it". Then you feel it. A random slip, the transmission is acting funny! You call the car lot, and wouldn't you know it, you had nothing to fear. The owner has you completely covered, just says to drop it off at Wholesale and he will take care of it. Well, that is exactly what the customer did, and that brings us to our first ever 10r80 internal repair.
Thus far we have come across two different failures with these 10r0s. One, the valve body fails causing issues with reverse mainly. Though, the most common failure by far for these transmissions is the CDF drum. The drum itself has a press in bushing that, over time, starts to work itself free. This causes the bushing to spin and slide up and down. When this occurs, it blocks pressure ports, causing intermittent issues with shifting in 2nd and 7th gear (plus several other issues). Thus far in our career here at Wholesale Transmission, obtaining that drum new was very difficult. All of the ones available didn't have the update to prevent that failure in the future, so we couldn't really get it. Well, times have changed, and now it is available.
So, when our customer brings us this 10r80 with an intermittent issue, we decided we didn't need to sell a overpriced reman this go round, and could instead repair it ourselves. A couple of days later we have the unit out of the vehicle and taken apart, and we can clearly see the sleeve had walked back and forth. We took the new drum and installed it into the unit, reinstalled the transmission, and the issues went away, we saved the customer over $5,000 going this route. After getting Transmission repairs in Bowling Green, KY, our customer was pleased to be back on the road!
