2019 Ford Expedition Transmission Rebuild in Bowling Green, KY

It starts off as just another drive—maybe you're heading to work or running errands when you feel it. A random slip. The transmission hesitates, then catches, almost like it’s second-guessing itself. The second—and by far the most frequent—is a failure in the CDF drum. Inside this drum is a press-in bushing that, over time, starts working itself loose. As it moves, it spins and slides up and down, blocking pressure ports and causing erratic shifting—especially in 2nd and 7th gear.

For a while, getting a new CDF drum was a challenge, and even when they were available, they didn’t include an update to prevent future failures. But that’s changed—we now have access to the improved version.

With the Expedition in our shop, we quickly diagnosed the issue, pulled the transmission, and confirmed our suspicions—the bushing in the CDF drum had shifted, causing all kinds of shifting inconsistencies. Instead of pushing an overpriced remanufactured transmission, we replaced the faulty drum with the updated version, reinstalled the transmission, and just like that—the problem was gone.

By choosing the repair over a full replacement, we saved the customer over $5,000 while giving them a stronger, more reliable transmission than what the dealership could offer.
