2018 Dodge Caravan Transmission Rebuild in Bowling Green, KY
April 8, 2025

This 2018 Dodge Caravan came into the shop with some pretty clear signs that something wasn’t right. The owner had been dealing with slipping, shuddering, and some inconsistent shifting. After going for a test drive and checking everything over, we pinned it down to a torque converter failure, which is something we’ve seen more than a few times in these vans.
Once we pulled the transmission, we found exactly what we expected and a bit more. The torque converter had already started breaking down internally, and as it came apart, it sent metal throughout the entire transmission. When that happens, it’s not just one part you have to worry about. That metal ends up everywhere, from the valve body to the clutch packs.
At that point, replacing just the converter wouldn’t have solved anything. We let the customer know a full transmission rebuild was the only real solution if they wanted the van to last.
Here’s what the job looked like:
✅ Pulled and disassembled the transmission
✅ Replaced the failed torque converter
✅ Flushed everything to remove metal contamination
✅ Rebuilt the transmission with new clutches, gaskets, seals, and bushings
✅ Reinstalled and tested the unit to make sure everything shifted the way it should
After the work was done, the Caravan drove just like it should. Smooth shifts, no more vibration, and no leftover issues from the metal contamination. The customer now has peace of mind knowing they won’t be back in a few months for the same problem.
