2017 Chevy 1500 Transmission Rebuild in Bowling Green, KY
June 28, 2024
So you are on the way to Barren River to go camping and fishing with the family for a getaway weekend. Of course you are hauling a camper along with you, what else would your family sleep in? On the way you start feeling some dreaded rumble strips, but you know you aren't swerving so what could it be? Well, you soon find out. One minute you are cruising down the road, the next you are calling a wrecker to come pick up your beautiful truck. One recommendation from the wrecker later and the truck is at Wholesale Transmission, primed and ready to be worked on. This is exactly what occurred with our customer just a few weeks ago.
Now that we have the truck, it is time to get to work. First things first, to fix the problem we must know what the problem really is. After hooking up the scanner and pulling codes, we come across a P0700 code. To put it simply, this is a very generic code saying that your transmission is having problems. This doesn't really help much with the diagnostics, does it? Well that doesn't stop us. We discovered that the vehicle moves when it is first started, but stops moving (pulling) when it warms up. It even quits pulling in reverse, you can see our first article on why this matters. This is typically a good indication that the transmission has an internal mechanical failure. When something is coming apart inside a transmission, it of course produces metal. When the filter stops up with metal, the vehicle stops pulling. So when a vehicle is moving cold, but stops hot, that is an indication that the filter is getting stopped up with metal. When the truck shuts off, the metal sinks back down and out of the filter, allowing the owner to drive it some more.
All of this leads to what the customer was not hoping for. We have to rebuild the transmission. Luckily, we do these 6l80's all the time here at Wholesale Transmission Center. These units are becoming more and more common, to the point where we keep almost everything needed to rebuild them in stock. Since our customer here pulls a camper with it, he wanted a few upgrades while we were there. So we put in a heavy duty billet lid converter, superior shift kit, and a towing tune to top it off. Now the customer is happy with a fresh transmission rebuild, able to go camping anywhere in Bowling Green, KY.
