2012 Mazda3 Transmission Replacement in Bowling Green, KY
April 29, 2024
This past week was quite adventurous for the Wholesale Transmission crew. We don't typically work on Mazda's, but when we do you can guarantee that it will work correctly once we get done with it! Our customer brought us a Mazda3 that he believed was having transmission issues. Based off his own diagnostics he came to the conclusion that it needed a valve body and solenoid pack put in, so he completed that himself. After the repairs were completed he discovered it didn't actually solve his problem, this is what led him to bring his vehicle to us. Our lead diagnostician, Ben Jr, took a quick look at the vehicle. Upon driving the vehicle it would very quickly set a P0731 and P0780 code. Once the vehicle got hot it wanted to stop moving altogether. This is usually a good signifier that something is coming apart inside the transmission, stopping up the filter. What do you believe the solution is to this problem?
I can say for 100% certainty that you do not want to change the filter to solve this problem. Nine times out of ten changing the filter when this problem is occurring will cause substantially more damage than before. We did some research on this transmission and came to the conclusion that building it would be much less cost effective than installing a used unit for the customer. Just a simple Master Kit for this unit was almost 1,000$, when you can simply purchased a used unit for less than 1,000$ with under 50,000 miles. The customer opted to purchase a used unit with only 33,500 miles on it and have us install it. Once the transmission was delivered we quickly started working on the Transmission Replacement, completing it roughly 9 hours later. The customer picked the vehicle up and was happy with the work completed, glad to have his baby back and to be driving around Bowling Green, Ky again!
