2017 Chevy Colorado Torque Converter Replacement in Bowling Green, KY

Say you just bought a wrecked low mileage Colorado from an auction, the front end has a good amount of damage with a damaged oil pan on the motor. The vehicle can still be driven but is considered totaled by the insurance company. You drive it to the body shop to get everything worked on and you don't feel any drivability issues. Once your body work is done you take it to a motor shop to get the pan replaced, again it drives fine before. Now you expect once you pick up the truck you will be good to go right? Well in our customers case this could not be further from what happened.

Once our customer picked up his vehicle he noticed a sort of shutter / jarring motion when at around 45-50mph. He insists this isn't something that was there before, but he also knows that things happen and it likely isn't from the work done. He brings his vehicle to us, Wholesale Transmission Center, so we can take a look. This is not the standard "Chevy Shimmy" feeling, this truck is jarring like an earthquake every time it has this issue. We decided to do a bit of research before committing to putting a torque converter (TC) in. We found a Sonnax TCC ZIP kit that seems to perfectly fit our customers complaint. We informed the customer that this ZIP kit probably has a 50/50 shot of fixing his problem, if it did not fix it we would need to put another TC in. This kit will make the new TC last much longer than factory though, so it is worth a shot even if it doesn't solve the problem in its entirety. The customer says go ahead.

After Jason spent around one and a half hours pulling the valve body, Ben Jr installed the ZIP kit and they both put the valve body back on. The problem was not solved with this, so the customer was informed and we ordered a new TC and Jason got back to work pulling the transmission. Now listen, I pity any man who tries to pull one of these Transmissions. To remove the TC bolts you must remove the starter, to remove the starter you must remove a motor mount, and to remove the motor mount you need an act of congress to say the least. Jason spent roughly 8 hours, two trips to taco bell, and one visit to his therapist, to get this transmission out. He finally did get her out though! We put the new converter in and, ill say this, the installation is not easier at all. He had two trips to the therapist on the install.

On the bright side, the torque converter fixed our customers issues. Now our customer can spend all the time he wants driving in Franklin, KY, after getting his transmission repairs completed at Wholesale Transmission Center.
